Paper on Cryptosporidium sex out in Nature Microbiology
Article by graduate student Jayesh Tandel on sexual development out today in Nature Microbiology. Jayesh and his colleagues made the Cryptosporidium lifecycle tractable using a series of fluorescent protein expressing parasite strains and characterized stage specific transcription. Parasite sex apparently is not only critical for transmission of the disease but also to sustain infection in a single host. This has important implications on how we think about treating and preventing cryptosporidiosis. Tandel, J. et al.
